Co-sponsored with the Robin Theatre. Mean Mary gave a very inspired performance at the 2024 FARM (Folk Alliance Regional Midwest) Conference in Chicago. Since then, she has been enchanting crowds at Midwest (summer) and Florida (winter) venues with her combination of powerful songs and stellar accompaniment on banjo, guitar and fiddle.
After headlining the Wheatland Music Festival, Gauthier makes a stop in Lansing before heading home to Nashville. Author of 'Mercy Now,' 'I Drink,' 'Drag Queens in Limousines' and 'Soft Place to Land,' Gauthier's concerts are beautiful presentations of insight and healing. Tickets are limited for this very special show.
Aurora and Antheia includes Carolyn Koebel, Cori Beth Somers and Lori Jarski, three fine musicians, who will be featured, and then play behind local spoken word ensemble, Voices of the Revolution. For this performance, poets Shelia Burks, Taru Muniz, Lisa Sarno and Ruelaine Stokes will offer pieces surrounding themes of community, oppression, racial justice and love.

The second performer to give a concert for the Ten Pound Fiddle, long-time supporter Joel Mabus gives his annual fall show to his many fans, friends and this, his folk music community. A very talented singer, songwriter, instrumentalist, and political and music historian, Mabus is often mentioned as one of the finest folk music artists in the country.

When an MSU student, Sally Rogers helped to start the Ten Pound Fiddle. Claudia Schmidt has performed at the Fiddle over 20 times. Great friends, together they will present a balanced, delightful, warm and funny Sunday afternoon program of poignant selections as well as old-favorites.

Frank Youngman was a member of the MSU marching band while picking up a degree in music education. Over the years, Frank has played the Fiddle with a multitude of bands including The Lost World String Band, Jive at Five, and this current ensemble with long-time musical pals Mark Schrock and Tom T. Ball.
Friday night of WITA, Janis will be appearing, in-person, at the screening of the new documentary, Janis Ian: Breaking Silence. She will take part in a special question and answer event after the screening.

23 years ago hundreds of people showed up to sing wonderful songs - together - at the first Mid-Winter Singing Festival. On Friday, Feb. 5, the Community Sing will feature song leader extraordinaire Dan Chouinard. Is there a better song leader, anywhere, than Dan Chouinard? This show is a chance to hear his new material as well as sing some songs with one of the folk music community's best song leaders. The world discovered WINDBORNE when a 50 - second clip of their four part, a cappella rendition of "Song for the Lower Classes," sung next to NYC Trump Tower signage, went totally viral. Since then, they have traveled the world as full - time musicians. Beyond simply dazzling the audience with vocal fireworks, Windborne evokes a deep emotional response, breathing new life into songs of change from the past that ring true in modern times. Each February, the Michigan Traditional Arts Program (MTAP) gives out 5-7 Michigan Heritage Awards to honor individuals who continue their family and community folk traditions with excellence through practice and teaching, or individuals who are recognized as outstanding community leaders in the maintenance, documentation, or presentation of traditional arts. Each year, 1-3 of these award winers are musical artists. Produced by the MTAP, this showcase will feature several of these past winners in concert at the intimate Robin Theatre. Matt Watroba, singer, songwriter, song leader and DJ, and Anne Hills, singer, songwriter, and member of several popular folk music singing groups, have been fast friends for a long time. Every so often, Anne drives west from her home in Bethlehem, PA and gives a series of concerts in Michigan (where she grew up and attended Interlochen) and in the Chicago area. For this Fiddle concert, Anne and Matt will split the bill, adding harmonies and accompaniment on each other's songs. Don't miss this afternoon of heartfelt music, friendship and community.

Wherever they perform, The Stilhouse Junkies quickly become a fan favorite as they explore the worlds between roots, bluegrass, Texas swing, blues, and rock. Their free-flowing musical interplay and improvisation make every show unique as the trio weave through high-energy, intricately composed original songs, never taking the same path twice. In 2027, MUD 17 takes place from Friday, April 30 - May 2 at the University United Methodist Church, East Lansing. These three days are filled with ukulele strums, workshops, classes, open mics, and large concerts on Friday and Saturday night. These evening concerts are open to the public.
