'Kitty Donohoe is a true treasure - a rare songwriter with tremendous range, a beautiful voice and an ability to write haunting, melodic and literate songs.' - All Music Guide

Kitty Donohoe

“Far above and beyond most singer-songwriters.” – Rich Warren

“Kitty creates a glorious sound” – Sing Out

Michigan Emmy award-winning songwriter Kitty Donohoe was born into a large, creative family outside of Detroit and has been ‘making up’ songs for as long as she can remember. She describes her music as ‘folky, Irishy, Canadianish,’ elements of her heritage that she draws on in the music she creates. A writer of tunes as well as songs, Kitty is currently working on an all-instrumental album, incorporating some newer, unrecorded pieces with tunes from previous albums. She is also actively working toward getting her music placed in films and TV shows, a path she’s been interested in pursuing for a long time, with the hope of one day scoring a film herself! Kitty’s work is unique, a sound that All Music Guide calls ‘haunting, melodic and literate.’ With a love of language, an innate sense of melody, and the soul of a storyteller, she backs herself on piano, guitar and cittern with equal finesse, but she sees these skills as mostly providing the foundation for the music she writes, both songs and instrumentals. ‘Kitty creates a glorious sound’ ~ Sing Out. Over the years she has delved ever deeper into Irish music and her latest CD, titled ‘The Irishman’s Daughter,’ is a combination of original songs and traditional Irish pieces, recorded with her own unique arrangements.
