Yellow Room Gang
What happens when eight of Michigan's finest songwriters share the stage? Magic. Yellow Room Gang members Annie Capps, Jim Bizer, Jan Krist, David Tamulevich, Kitty Donohoe, David Barrett, Michael Hough and Matt Watroba present their songs in a round robin format, highlighting why many of their songs have become staples in the greater folk music community.
In December of 2004, eight highly – regarded Michigan singer/songwriters/performers and recording artists got together for a pot luck dinner and to workshop their latest songs in the works.
The meeting took place in the yellow living room of David Tamulevich, hence the name.
The Gang consists of David Barrett, Jim Bizer, Annie Capps Kitty Donohoe, Michael Hough, Jan Krist ,David Tamulevich and Matt Watroba.
The meetings became a monthly event as the eight found common ground in the hard work of writing, editing, letting others into your process, and the mutual respect of peers – now great friends.
Before long they began doing concerts together, sometimes four of five of them; sometime six or seven; once in a while all eight of them.
Over the years they have also released four highly acclaimed recordings.
The show is done is a round robin format; the Gang is as much a part of the show as the audience, not knowing what song the person before them will sing, but each responsible to carry the evening’s story forward.
The night, the audience, the requests all influence how the show is created, in the moment. It is always a fun, joyful, uplifting, and profoundly moving experience.
