Matt Watroba, singer, songwriter, song leader and DJ, and Anne Hills, singer, songwriter, and member of several popular folk music singing groups, have been fast friends for a long time. Every so often, Anne drives west from her home in Bethlehem, PA and gives a series of concerts in Michigan (where she grew up and attended Interlochen) and in the Chicago area. For this Fiddle concert, Anne and Matt will split the bill, adding harmonies and accompaniment on each other's songs. Don't miss this afternoon of heartfelt music, friendship and community.
Anne Hills is a beloved folk singer-songwriter, guitarist, and performer whose warm, expressive voice has made her one of the most respected artists in contemporary folk music. Born in Moradabad, India, to missionary parents and raised in Michigan, she studied at Interlochen Arts Academy before becoming a prominent figure in Chicago’s vibrant folk scene. Over a career spanning more than four decades, Hills has earned recognition for her original songwriting, interpretive skill, and collaborations with artists including Tom Paxton, Cindy Mangsen, Priscilla Herdman, and Michael Smith. A recipient of numerous honors, including the Kate Wolf Memorial Award, Hills continues to inspire audiences through recordings, concerts, educational work, and her commitment to social justice and community.
Matt Watroba is an award-winning folk singer, songwriter, educator, and radio host widely recognized as one of Michigan’s leading ambassadors of folk and roots music. A Detroit native, he has spent more than four decades performing, teaching, and promoting traditional and contemporary folk music. Watroba is known for his warm stage presence, community singing programs, and thoughtful original songs that celebrate compassion, humor, and everyday life. We know him in mid Michigan as the voice of folk music on WKAR public radio.
