SUMMARY:Mid-Winter Singing & Folk Festival Concert with Reggie Harris
DESCRIPTION:Reggie Harris is a singer/songwriter\, storyteller and educator\, known worldwide for song leadership\, activism and for his work as a community builder. \nAwarded a Folk Alliance International Spirit of Folk Award\, Harris is also a recipient of the W.E.B. DuBois Legacy Award from Great Barrington\, MA (DuBois’s hometown)\, and leads of civil rights pilgrimages in the South with the Living Legacy Project. \nReggie’s work as an activist and community builder is also featured in the portrait and educational series “Americans Who Tell the Truth\,” a project of activist/painter Rob Shetterly\, and is featured as a subject in the film about the artist\, Truth Tellers\, by Dick Kane of Maine Masters. \nWith many noteworthy recordings to is credit\, his two solo CDs Ready to Go and On Solid Ground have garnered airplay and praise in folk and acoustic music circles. \nMost recently\, Reggie’s exciting and inspirational memoir Searching for Solid Ground was published and released by Skinner House Books. \nReggie’s friendship with Pete and Toshi Seeger\, and other historical elders\, inspired him to embrace the belief that music is an essential ingredient in creating a world of hope and justice. \nHis work with the Living Legacy Project and the John F Kennedy Center’s Changing Education Through the Arts program\, give powerful evidence that his life and career are committed to that mission of justice\, education and freedom. \nIt was a joy and an honor to have Reggie among us for the event on 9/13! He is such an amazing role model\, and of course was himself: charming\, professional\, and bearing witness to all who fight the good fight as he himself has done for so many years.
