DESCRIPTION:×\nEVENT CHANGE\nDue to an illness in the family\, Luke Winslow-King has had to postpone his appearance at The Ten Pound Fiddle this Friday September 15\, 2017. \nFilling in will be Detroit’s Reverend Robert B. Jones. \nIf you have purchased Brown Paper Tickets for this event\, you will be able to use them for Rev. Robert B. Jones’ show this Friday night. If you would prefer a refund\, you will be able to do that emailing Brown Paper Tickets – until 5 pm Friday night. \nThe Dangling Participles will still scheduled to appear as the opening act. \nOur thoughts are with Luke and his family at this time.\nRev. Robert B. Jones\nAuthenticity is something that I believe is important to all of us. And hopefully we get to work with people who are authentic. When you couple that authenticity with talent of a truly exceptional nature: a pastor\, a songwriter\, a storyteller\, a multi-instrumentalist\, an award winning educator with an encyclopedic knowledge of the history of African American folk music\, including blues\, spiritual\, and slave songs…its players and styles…you get the Reverend Robert B. Jones\, Sr. from Detroit\, Michigan. \nFollowing in the tradition of legendary figures like Rev. Gary Davis\, Lead Belly\, Sam “Lightnin'” Hopkins\, Woody Guthrie and Gamble Rogers\, Robert Jones loves the challenge of using traditional music as a vehicle to address issues of the today.  Speaking truth to power is one of his major goals\, thus making the stage a part of his ministry. \nRobert says\, “As much as I love what this music for the way that it sounds\, I love\, even more\, what this music can do.  At its best\, Roots music tells the truth\, and it gives a voice to those who struggle to be heard otherwise. I am an activist and I try to use my stories and music\, not just for entertainment\, but in service to my calling and my community and to connect the generations that I am blessed to live between.”  Visit Robert’s website. \n\nThe Dangling Participles\n \nThe Dangling Participles are a Lansing-based acoustic band with a diverse song set ranging from folk and Americana to Latin jazz and blues. The band’s strong and soulful vocals—shared by Tamiko Rothhorn\, Austin Kaufmann\, and Larry Zwier—give the group its signature style. Austin anchors the group with his lead guitar\, mandolin\, and harmonica\, with Larry on rhythm guitar and Tamiko adding cornet and ukulele. Tim Patterson (bass) joined the band this year\, filling out the rhythm section and harmonic foundation. \nThe Dangling Participles have been performing genre-hopping originals and covers throughout mid-Michigan since 2015. Founded by three Michigan State University English language instructors (hence the band name’s grammatical flair)\, The Dangling Participles bring together their love of harmonizing\, songwriting\, and arranging to create a lively acoustic music experience. Their 2015 EP\, Devotion\, was recorded by the original three members (Austin\, Larry\, and Maggie Vosters).
