Getting Booking At The Fiddle
A message from Sally Potter, booking manager:
Thanks for your interest in performing for the Ten Pound Fiddle Concert Series.
As you visit this website, you will learn that the "Fiddle" began in 1975 when a group of folk music enthusiasts produced a series of folk music concerts in a small room in the Michigan State University Union. (For more info, visit "History" under "About Us" on this web site.)
Thirty-three years later, the Fiddle continues to be an all-volunteer organization which now produces 20 - 25 Friday night concerts and 10 - 12 Saturday night dances per year, from September through May.
The Fiddle's dance committee is in charge of booking bands and callers for the monthly contra and square dances.
Arie Koelewyn, the most recent Fiddle booking manager, has put together the concert schedule for the last several years, including most of the up-coming 08-09 Fiddle line-up. I am privileged to take over these booking duties.
The Fiddle books a variety of acts under the ever-growing "folk and traditional" musical umbrella. This includes: contemporary folk, political/ progressive, community singing, bluegrass, Old Time, classic jazz, world beat, Latin, Cajun, Irish...the list goes on. To get a better idea of the acts the Fiddle has booked in the past, visit the "Performer History List" under "About Us".
Over the past 33 seasons, there have been many, many memorable Fiddle concerts. Each of these special evenings has had one thing in common: the performer/act connected with the audience.
Simply put, the Fiddle looks for musical acts that create (and sustain) this magical, musical conversation. With only 25 dates per year, the Fiddle can afford to look at many acts before sculpting an annual line-up which presents our very large, very faithful folk music fan base with the very best that today's acoustic music community has to offer.
If you would like to be considered for a concert gig at the Fiddle, please send a CD, a press kit, and any scheduling information (when you are next performing in the area) to: Booking Manager, The Ten Pound Fiddle, P.O. Box 4486, East Lansing, MI 48826
I will listen to your CD (usually on my work commute - 40 miles RT) and read your information, although I cannot promise a written/ snail mail or email response.
Thank you, very much, for your interest in the Ten Pound Fiddle.
Sincerely,
Sally Potter
